Sometimes, the best way to move ahead in life is to admit you’ve had enough. We’ve all been taught that perseverance is the key to success; that if we just try hard enough. We can make any dream come true. Just think of what we say to egg ourselves on: Don”t be a quitter never say die, never gave up. But is it possible that you could advance your life more by quitting things that haven’t brought your satisfaction? Is walking away from a job, a hobby, a friendship even a diet - better - sometimes, than slogging it out?
Giving your self permission to quit may actually leave you in a better position to cope with life challenges. There comes a time when turn rigid and ineffective and trying again in just foolish.
ACKNOWLEDGE THE TRUTH - tossing in the towel requires that you acknowledge the truth about yourself without blame or denial: I don’t have the talent to be a professional singer. I can afford this house. Telling the truth in this way is a wake-up call. You recognize that you’ve got to do something differently and that just may mean giving up altogether.
Often, when do give up on something we experience a tremendous sense of relief and ease. It’s like stepping out of an old pair of pants that no longer fits.
OPEN TO A NEW POSSIBILITIES - quitting isn’t a cop-out, as many believe, rather, it can set up for an interesting new experiences, even if we don’t yet know its shape or form.
REDEFINE SUCCESS - to feel positive quitting, we need to redefine success and failure. When even you contemplate giving up, you’re asking yourself to make a judgment call. So how do you know when its appreciate to call its quits? After all, sometimes you need to try harder or put in more time. What crucial is that you recognize your own limits. Only you can judge for yourself, in the quit counsel of your own deepest wisdom, if the situation you are in calls for more will power or a bit of “WONT” power.
